Seiko Epson Co, the only one playing that particular game, has a new series of 21 models in four types of its NEC Corp PC-9800-compatible series of personal computers but it is seeing its market share eroded by the activities of sellers of IBM Japan-compatible machines such as Dell Computer Corp and Compaq Computer Corp running the bilingual DOS/V operating system. The Epson PC-486MU series is designed to compete with the NEC 98MULTI series; a notebook, the personal computer-486NOTE AU series is also available, and both machines are based on 33MHz 80486SX chip, with a high-speed CD-ROM drive and stereo speakers. The units are priced respectively at $2,673 and $2,865.
