Microsoft Corp is expected to implement a new version of Object Linking & Embedding in both the Daytona version of NT, which ships in the summer and the Chicago version of Windows, which should materialise by the end of the year. The move comes in response to developers’ complaints that it takes too long to launch Object Linking & Embedding, that interoperability between 16-bit and 32-bit applications is poor, and that it is not possible to move just one piece of a file. The new release of Object Linking & Embedding is expected to evolve into a distributed version that should appear in or before Cairo, and should include a facility, Logical Page Negotiation, which eliminates the need to import entire files when using Object Linking & Embedding in Windows.
