Microsoft Corp has now begun shipping its first Compact Disk Read-Only Memory application, Microsoft Bookshelf, a collection of 10 reference books on one disk: as reported, it includes The World Almanac and Book of Facts, The American Heritage Dictionary, The US Zip Code Directory (they’ll love that in Ulan Bator), The Chicago Manual of Style, Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations, Roget’s Thesaurus, Houghton Mifflin Spelling Verifier and Corrector, Houghton Mifflin Usage Alert, Business Information Sources, and a collection of Forms and Letters to fill the disk up; it works with most of the major word processing programs and sells for $295, needing an MS-DOS 3.x box with 640Kb, or 512Kb and hard disk.
