The Sematech US semiconductor technology research consortium has won backing from most of the major chip producers, and founder members are expected to include Advanced Micro Devices, AT&T, DEC, Harris, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, IBM, LSI Logic, Micron Technology Inc, Motorola, National Semiconductor, Rockwell and Texas Instruments. The members will put up half the $250m annual budget and hope to get the balance from the government. Sematech has been incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in Delaware, with NatSemi’s Charles Sporck as chairman. Board members include Jerry Sanders of AMD, Sanford Kane of Intel, and William Sick of Texas Instruments. It’s now up to Congress.
