Hutchison Mobile Data has announced an $18m equipment purchase with Motorola Mobile Data Division’ for its mobile data network and promised an April launch for the system; four companies were granted licences to operate mobile data networks in 1989, none of them have begun yet but Dowty’s Cognito launched its system at the TMA 23 event in November: Hutchison is giving away no details, except to say that it will be the first to get going, this April, and that full details will be revealed then: the other two holders of Department of Trade & Industry licences are Motorola UK Ltd and L M Ericsson Telefon AB.
