Hampton, Middlesex-based Eicon Technology Ltd has announced its A/SAN Asynchronous SNA Access Node, claiming it to be the first gateway to provide remote users with asynchronous dial-in communications to both mid-range and mainframe IBM Corp hosts. Eicon says that the Windows-based A/SAN enables notebook, laptop and remote computers to concurrently access 3270 and 5250 applications via X.25 packet-switching networks and asynchronous links. A/SAN can be connected to the host computer via Token Ring, SDLC or X25 connections. For TIC-based hosts, the gateway enables remote personal computer users to be part of the ‘new SNA’ architecture. Network administrators can remotely manage A/SAN from any Teletype terminal or emulator on a personal computer, by accessing it through an X25 network and using the A/SAN console, says the company. Other features include SNA/Async end-to-end protocol and data compression. The product is available immediately. Prices start at UKP6,120.
