NTT Communications said that it will launch a video conferencing service in Japan, which will combine a cloud-based multipoint control unit (MCU) with the company’s virtual private network connections, Arcstar IP-VPN and e-VLAN, to realise secure system for multipoint video conferencing.

The company said that the new service allows customers to introduce video conference systems quickly and for lower initial cost. The MCU, a piece of hardware if purchased outright, is offered as a cloud-based service through the company’s application gateway service, which connects applications to the VPN.

The basic service comes with multiple video conferencing, its control and management, customer support and an optional feature that enables users to book, change or cancel the conferences, the company said.

According to NTT, advantages of the new multipoint video conferencing system include, security and stability through the company’s VPN without using internet and data centres connected directly to NTT Com’s high-speed backbone; east setup with basic equipment; and no broadband network lines for a MCU with the application gateway service.

NTT said that the new video conferencing service will be expanded through connection to the company’s global VPN services and plans to offer web conferencing through VPN.
