Network Computing Devices Inc, Mountain view, California, is offering version 2.0 of its PC-Xware X server with support for sound, a new user interface, a Network Computing developed 32-bit VxD-based Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol stack and its Z-Mail electronic mail as an option. The company says that the new interface hides some of the complexity of local network-attached Unix systems and the VxD is used instead of the previously offered NetManage Inc-based 16-bit Dynamic Link Library technology. The X server will, however, continue to support NetManage’s Newt and other TCP/IP stacks. Prices for it start from $545 and it is available this month. NetPack for File Transfer Protocol costs from $735, or NetPack Network File System, from $800. NetPack Mail costs an additional $150, and upgrades will sell for from $125.
