In the latest Gartner ‘Hype Cycle of Emerging Technologies’ report, cloud computing was at what Gartner calls the ‘Peak of Inflated Expectations’. That’s hardly surprising as it has been one of the most-hyped technologies for many years, with some commentators saying it represents a new era in IT. Nicholas Carr, author of IT Doesn’t Matter and The Big Switch, strengthens the cloud position and its contribution to the history of technology, and even believes cloud computing, or utility computing, will eventually replace the IT department.

So the cloud presence is obvious, and it is here to stay, having already proved to be more than just hype. But how do cloud vendors guarantee cloud-related quality of service to their end users?

In the first article from our special report, CBR looks at the growing role of automated testing in the evolving cloud sphere.

When it comes to hardware, device, embedded systems, networks or telecoms services testing, growing complexity means that firms’ testing processes generate more data than ever. But how do companies ensure that the test data is not just noise but meaningful business intelligence that has a real impact on product quality? The second part of our special report in association with QualiSystems finds out.
