Campbell, California-based Zilog Inc, with no ambitions any more in the leading edge general purpose microprocessor market, wants to get into the fun-and-games end of the business, and has signed with StarSight Telecast Inc to supply it with the television, cable converter and VCR chip technology for the StarSight interactive television programming guide: StarSight-equipped sets will be able to view up to seven days of television programme schedule information on-screen by channel and theme, tune by program title, customise channel set-up and implement one-button VCR recording – Zilog’s new Z89300 TV controller series implements the television and VCR chip technology to support StarSight’s proprietary database processor technology; one-time programmable and engineering sample mask ROM devices are available now.
