Campbell, California-based Zilog Inc wants to rebuild its fortune by developing and marketing chips for mass storage applications, and as an initial step has signed a joint development and cross licence agreement with Oak Technology Inc under which the two will exchange engineering resources, product technology and application knowledge. Oak designs and markets chips complete chip subsystems for AT bus handheld, notebook and desktop personal computers and peripherals, notably the OakHorizon Chip Set, a power-saving 80286 and 80386SX core logic set, the OTI-037/067 SuperVGA and Extended SuperVGA graphics controllers, and Oak VCEP, Video Compression and Expansion Processor, for bi-tonal compression.
