Zenith Electronics Corp, Glenview, Illinois warns that it now expects to report a loss in the third quarter, and is less confident that it will report a full-year profit for 1989: in the year-ago third quarter, Zenith had net income of $3.0m, 11 cents a share, but $2.6m of that was from sale of properties; Zenith said sales of computers so far are lower than anticipated, resulting in lower operating profits and higher-than-anticipated inventory levels, borrowings and interest costs; the company is adjusting production schedules and has implemented some price reductions to trim the inventories, and hopes to have inventories back at normal levels by the end of the year; it still expects fourth-quarter profits, but they may not offset the accumulated losses, which already totalled $17m at the mid-term mark.
