Zenith Data Systems Europe introduced a range of new 80486-based notebook and sub-notebook machines, including network-ready units with advanced colour video technology, 200Mb disks, and an integrated pointing device, and also introduced a pen-based version of its Z-Note series, aimed at developers: the Z-Note+ models feature Intel Corp 80486SL processors, the Readydesk-Token Ring port replicator, active matrix color VGA displays, a minimum 200Mb hard disk and the Notepoint two-button, Microsoft Mouse-compatible portable pointing device; the range in price from $3,350 to $6,300; the Z-Star 433VL models based on the IBM Corp 486SLC microprocessor – which seems to mean IBM is making the motherboard include the J-key pointing device, which is located on the standard keyboard – when tapped in a normal typing motion, the J key generates the letter J as it would on any other keyboard, but by applying light and continued pressure to the concave J-Mouse and pushing the key in the desired direction of the cursor movement, the key functions as a mouse; this series ranges in price from $2,150 to $3,300; and the Z-Notepad 425LN has a 25MHz 80486SL chip, 4Mb memory, 120Mb hard drive and built-in Ethernet interface; it replaces the standard monochrome screen with a 9 electromagnetic digitiser; the Groupe Bull company also introduced two models of a 486SL version of its sub-notebook line, the Z-Lite 425L.
