Yahoo Inc, once the Switzerland of broadband, has finally taken the plunge by forging a co-marketing deal with Covad Communications Group Inc. Covad wants to increase subscriber numbers to its ADSL and other high-speed net access services, using Yahoo’s popular content and applications as bait. Covad will market a co-branded My Yahoo! start page service through its distribution channels to small businesses and consumers. Though the details haven’t been hammered out yet, the page is likely to feature Yahoo’s free member services and a Covad broadband sign- up zone, where dial-up internet subscribers can exchange their accounts for permanent – and profitable – ADSL lines.
