Yahoo has appointed veteran technology executive Maynard Webb as its chairman, replacing Fred Amoroso, as part of its chief executive officer Marissa Mayer’s turnaround efforts to boost the company’s advertising business.
Joining Yahoo’s board in February 2012, Webb has been serving as its interim chairman since April 2013, and had worked as chief operating officer of eBay.
Yahoo has executed a series of management and board changes in the past two years and is also incorporating new tools and services to boost customer attraction under Mayer, who joined the internet firm in July 2012.
Yahoo spokeswoman Anne Espiritu said Webb’s leadership and guidance have been an invaluable part of the company’s board since his joining in 2012.
"We are honored that Maynard will continue to serve as chairman of the board," Espiritu said.
As part of the ongoing efforts, Yahoo has spent about $1.2bn in acquiring at least 20 startups, in addition to the recent Rockmelt acquisition during early August 2013.
