Accel-a-Writer IV, an upgrade controller that increases the resolution and processing speed of Hewlett-Packard Co LaserJet Series II laser printers and is compatible with Adobe PostScript, has been released by Boston-based Xante Corporation: it is said to increase the resolution of HP LaserJet Series II printers from 300 by 300 dots per square inch) to 600 by 600; it provides Intelligent Simultaneous Interfacing which enables simultaneous printing from a Macintosh or MS-DOS micro through Appleserial and Centronics parallel ports without additional hookups or switching; Advanced Memory Management allocates the memory of Accel-a-Writer to increase printer resolution, to provide more virtual memory to download fonts and to enable the printing of one page while others are being composed; the on-board SCSI interface allows for extended storage of downloaded fonts; the controller uses Advanced Micro Devices Inc’s Am29000 RISC and ships in September at $2,500.
