With version 5.5, WRQ has expanded its focus on Microsoft technologies by providing integration with Visual Studio .NET and BizTalk Server, making it possible for Microsoft developers to work directly with legacy components within the .NET development environment.

According to the company, organizations can use Verastream within their service-oriented architecture to expose legacy application logic and data as reusable components such as COM Objects, JavaBeans, web services, or the newly added .NET component, without having to learn legacy code.

Verastream 5.5 now provides a full .NET application programming interface with native .NET DataSet support, automatic generation of .NET Class Libraries and COM Objects, automatic generation of ASP.NET and ASP web applications, automatic generation of .NET Web services, and enhanced interoperability with Visual Studio .NET.

The new version also provides Microsoft BizTalk Server customers with a non-invasive, bi-directional, real-time connection to host systems such as IBM Mainframe, IBM AS/400, Unix, OpenVMS, and HP e3000.

The latest version also adds Event Handlers, which are said to provide a flexible, modular, and reusable way to programmatically extend Verastream’s functionality. Event Handlers make it possible to develop an application once, reducing repetitive client-side programming.

Uses for Event Handlers include formatting conversions like currency, date and text; data entry validation; user authentication and access control; and extending interoperability across multiple host applications.
