By having closed the deal approximately one month early, WorldCom reduced its debtor-in-financing obligation, ultimately acquiring the assets for $31 million rather than the $40 million estimated when its intentions were announced on September 25, 2001.

Since we announced the deal in September we were able to keep thousands of users up and running through our debtor-in-financing agreement, said Brian Brewer, WorldCom Group’s chief marketing officer. We are now even better positioned to leverage DSL as an important component of WorldCom’s strategy to deliver a wide range of business-class access services that enable our data and Internet customers to grow their business.

With the Rhythms DSL assets WorldCom will continue to deliver business-class DSL access to a wide range of services, including Internet, VPN, frame relay and ATM, through approximately 700 central offices in 31 major metropolitan areas where WorldCom already has a solid DSL customer base. WorldCom today offers a variety of options for customers to access WorldCom’s complete suite of data and Internet services, including DSL, wholly-owned fiber-optic metropolitan area network connections, MMDS fixed-wireless, VSAT service, dial-up and other dedicated connections, tailored to meet customers’ unique budgetary, geographic and application requirements.
