WordPerfect Corp has now had its say, and reveals that it discussed a possible combination with Lotus Development Corp before it agreed to merge with Novell Inc – and that the takoever price ranges proposed by Lotus were higher than the final agreement with Novell – but the combination with Lotus did not provide it with the network infrastructure it believes is necessary to create the next generation of networked applications; it reaffirmed its commitment to what it described as a definitive deal to merge with Novell at a fixed exchange ratio there is no provision by which the deal could be set aside due to fluctuations up or down in the Novell share price, which had been tumbling last week.
