Wind River Systems Inc has introduced the second generation of its embedded systems programming environment, Tornado II. First introduced back in 1995, Tornado II updates the original product as a platform for HTML, Java and C++ graphics development, and adds thin client device builders to the list of Wind River’s traditional embedded systems customer base. Additions include a new graphics portfolio, improved file system support, PersonalJava for VxWorks, and the SENS 2 networking stack. There are three components: the tools suite, run-time system, and communications package. Host support is for Windows, NT, Sun Solaris and HP-UX workstations, and it runs on Motorola PowerPC, 68000 and CPU32, Intel StrongArm and i960, MIPS, ARM and Sparc processors. Development tools are due out in the fourth quarter.
