Wellfleet Communications Inc, the Billerica, Massachusetts company in the process of consummating a ‘merger of equals’ with SynOptics Communications Inc, has enhanced network management across its range of bridge-routers with features designed to improve network manageability and availability. The company’s English Language Command Set is designed for identifying and correcting network problems from an embedded terminal interface, says the company. It consists of more than 500 commands for the detection, isolation and resolution of problems from a terminal, in-band or out-of-band. Show and monitor commands display configuration, status and statistical reports and are supplied for each available protocol and interface. Enable and disable commands activate and deactivate protocols and interfaces. Commands are initiated from the Technician Interface command line or from an optional two-level menu system. They are written in the router’s interpretive scripting language. The new Packet Capture feature is aimed at improving troubleshooting by capturing and displaying router data. Captured packets are displayed in hexadecimal format from the Technician Interface. According to the company, the captured data can be thentransferred to a remote host machine over the network, using Trivial File Transfer Protocol TFTP or XModem. A Unix utility is also available to convert the captured packets to a Network General Corp Sniffer format so they can be decoded, says the company. The enhancements are available with Wellfleet’s Version 7.80 system software and are available free to current users.
