For the first time, the department of permits and inspections is making electrical, plumbing, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) permits available online.

Washington County has been using Accela services for several years to centralize and automate its land and permit management activities. In June 2005, the department implemented Accela Wireless to power inspection teams with mobile technology to shift many daily tasks from the office to the field and improve productivity.

The addition of VelocityHall increases access to the department’s services, allowing citizens and businesses to apply and pay for permits, check the status of permits, schedule inspections, and check inspection results directly from the internet, 24/7.

The permits offered by the county are typically processed by mail or in-person, so the new online system provides citizens with an option that expedites service to them and streamlines operations for county staff.

VelocityHall allows agencies to keep pace with the expectations of their citizens, who are becoming accustomed to conducting more business online, stated Robert Lee, Accela’s president and CEO. Services that enable agencies to communicate and coordinate more effectively with citizens save everyone both time and money.
