Altera Corp and Waferscale Integration Inc, both of Santa Clara, California, have signed a a five-year technology exchange agreement covering development of new, high performance, user configurable logic products. Under the terms of the agreement, Altera will provide architecture, circuit design and software support for the planned family of products and Waferscale will contribute its skills in high speed CMOS process and EPROM memory device development, with high volume manufacturing being handled by Sharp Corp at its highly automated Fukuyama wafer fabrication facility. The first fruits of the agreement are set to be available in the first half of 1987. Designated SAM, for stand-alone microsequencer, the family has been designed to provide a comprehensive selection of fully integrated high performance microsequencers for microcoded state machines and other sequencer applications. Development system support for the devices will be provided by enhancements to Altera’s existing PLDS2 and PLCAD4 development systems which run on the IBM Personal.
