Montreal, Canada-based Vircom said the unique features of the appliance, aside from its OS, are that it supports TLS encryption, which is essentially a Layer-4 encrypted pipe from email server to remote sender/recipient, and its customizable Sieve scripting engine, which eliminates email-borne threats and annoyances like viruses, malwares, spam, fraud ad harvesting attempts by enabling the enforcement of corporate security policy.
While its reliance on a Microsoft OS might raise concern on the part of corporate users from a security perspective, the flip side is that Vircom can boast much tighter integration with Exchange environments. It highlights ModusGate’s ability to perform a forward look-up to the Exchange server and automatically populate its list of mailboxes and aliases. This powerful feature also automatically populates email aliases in ModusGate and does not require any form of day-to-day maintenance. It is also aware of user account management done on the Exchange server and seamlessly inherits it without human intervention.
No prices were available for the appliance, which was launched at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the weekend.
