Viper has completed testing and plans to soon begin marketing its new vPhone 3100, which would replace its 2100 model that it launched more than a year ago.

The new phone would allow users to make calls over Viper’s global VoIP network from any WiFi hotspot or access point.

The San Diego, California-based said the 3100 model would be cheaper than its predecessor, but did not provide specifics.

I am ecstatic, as this moves Viper Networks far ahead of our competition in the VoIP market, said Viper chief executive Ron Weaver.

With Vonage attempting to follow our lead by offering a WiFi device before the end of this year, it tells me that Viper is on the leading edge of innovation in the VoIP market, he said. I believe our one-year head start will be advantageous in any competitive situation.
