Russia-based Vimpel-Communications has reported a net loss of RUB8.5 billion, or RUB168.20 per common share for the first quarter of 2009, compared to a net income of RUB14.6 billion, or RUB287.28 per common share for the same period of 2008.
The company has reported net operating revenues of RUB66.8 billion for the quarter, an increase of 30.7% compared to net operating revenues of RUB51.1 billion for the same period of 2008.
The company’s operating income was RUB19.3 billion for the first quarter of 2009, a decrease of 13.2%, compared to operating income of RUB17 billion, year over year.
The company’s mobile subscribers reached 62.7m, an increase of 10.4m compared to the same quarter last year.
Boris Nemsic, chief executive officer of Vimpel, said: “Despite the unfavourable macroeconomic conditions and usual seasonal slowdown, we managed to deliver strong quarterly results with revenues of RUB66.8 billion and OIBDA of RUB32.2 billion with a healthy OIBDA margin of over 48%.
“The relatively minor impact of the economic environment on the operational side of our business reconfirms our belief in the resilience of the telecom industry.”
