Flash Lite for the BREW runtime environment from Qualcomm Inc enables Flash apps to run on mobile phones on Verizon’s Get It Now network.
Verizon, the second largest mobile carrier in the US, said its customers could buy Flash Lite apps and automatically Flash enable their phones.
The technology essentially makes better video and animated content on mobile phones. Adobe yesterday said it would enable new mobile applications and content.
For business users, Flash Lite may help spur more mobile videoconferencing. The companies did not specify which apps were currently available for purchase, but initially they are likely to be more consumer oriented. Carriers in Japan and South Korea have already introduced flash-enhanced content for mobiles.
Flash Lite is currently available on four Verizon handsets, including The V (LG VX9800), Motorola Razr V3c and Motorola V3m and Samsung SCH-a950. The companies expect Flash Lite to be available on additional handsets in coming weeks.
Adobe also announced yesterday a preview release of its Flash Lite 2.1 Update for free download, which enables developers to create and test Flash Lite content and applications in the Flash Professional 8 environment.
