OpForce was originally developed by Jareva Technologies Inc, the start-up that Veritas bought last year. The software automates the deployment of servers by creating snapshots or templates of operating system, network connections, applications. It is one of the main planks of Veritas’ planned push into utility-style systems management software, in which servers will be allocated to applications on the fly.
OpForce 4.0 will begin shipping this month and adds the ability to deploy BEA’s WebLogic application server. It also adds application discovery, configuration and the ability to automatically detect and manage dissimilar server configurations, according to Veritas. New point-in-time snapshot and re-provisioning capabilities ensure regulatory compliance of heterogeneous servers across the enterprise, the company also said.
The software has already been connected to Veritas’ eponymous file system, and according to Veritas will be integrated with its i3 application performance monitoring software in 2005. i3 was originally developed by Precise Software Solutions Inc, another start-up that Veritas bought last year.
