VeriFone Inc, the Redwood City, California company that was touting its wares in London the other day (CI No 1,078), has unveiled a new member of its ZON II family of compact transaction microcomputers with up to 128Kb of memory and support for several peripheral devices for different applications, including printers, personal identification number pads, bar code wands and a cash drawer – as well as an RS-232 port for interface with devices such as personal computers and electronic cash registers: the ZON II XJ supports three different programming languages: ZAPD and C for the ZON II product family, and TCL for the Tranz family of transaction terminals, ZAPD and TCL being proprietary to VeriFone; it ships in February at a price to resellers of $300 to $500.
