Btrieve Technologies Inc, the Austin, Texas Novell Inc database spin-out reports that it has landed over $4m in venture funding from three venture capital firms to fuel its global expansion ambitions. The financing was led by Austin Ventures, and includes Applied Technology Ventures and Triad Ventures. Btrieve provides high-performance database engines bundled with commercial applications and sold to small and medium-sized companies and departments within large organisations; it claims they are used by over 50,000 software developers today.
Soft Systems Ltd, West London-based supplier of executive information systems has won ú500,000 of funding from investment group 3i Group Plc. The money will be used to increase staff levels to 60 from the present 12 over the next three years and to expand its sales and marketing operations overseas. Soft’s Data-Vision software enables users to retrieve information from Oracle and other relational databases and it is also part of Oracle Corp’s Co-Operative Applications Initiative programme.
