VA Linux Systems has won $25m in private equity funding in a second round of financing. Companies participating in the round include the Capital Research Group, WR Hambrecht & Co, Intel Corp, IDG Ventures, Lehman Brothers, Sequoia Capital, SGI, Sumitomo Corp and Presidio Venture Partners. Sunnyvale, California-based VA supplies Linux computer systems, support and internet services. Along with the funding, the company has announced the opening of two international offices in Toronto, Canada. Finally, to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to the open source and free software communities that develop the Linux operating system, VA has announced that it will sponsor Linux Demo Day. This volunteer project, run by corporate sponsors and Linux users groups (LUGs), aims to hold an international demonstration of Linux during the week of September 12-18, 1999.
