The system which is designed to protect information stored on Pocket PCs against unauthorized users, has been augmented with PIM Encryption features to automatically encrypt the built-in PDA Personal Information Manager applications. It also includes hard reset survival routines and a secure screen saver so that the device automatically times out and locks after a period of user inactivity, the vendor said.
Utimaco is one of a number of niche mobile security software vendors addressing the protection of data resident on mobile computing devices and competes against the likes of Certicom, Pointsec, F-Secure, Trust Digital, and Asynchrony Solutions.
SafeGuard PDA and the associated SafeGuard PrivateCrypto module is closest in design to F-Secure’s FileCrypto, but Utimaco’s product is distinguished by offering both PIN and biometric access control via signature recognition.
