Microsoft has announced an updated version of Skype for Mac 7.0 and a preview of the new Skype for Windows, a few features of which are already available on the mobile version.

For Mac, Skype comes with a range of productivity improvements, including the capability to enable users to chat and talk simultaneously.

The updated Skype offers users with thumbnail pictures of contacts, a new bubble-style chat design, and consistent icons for chat, video calls and audio calls.

Microsoft’s Tom Huang said: "If you’re already using Skype on mobile, you’ll recognize some of these changes.

"We’ve made the Skype experience consistent whether you are using your mobile device or your desktop PC."

Both apps are now integrated with improved group video chat and display file icons when sharing documents with friends.

With the updated Skype app, Microsoft assures that the free group video calls would work better than ever.

In May, Microsoft unveiled the Skype Translator, which will be available for Windows 8 later this year as limited beta. It will be initially compatible with 40 languages.
