To offset the Open Software Foundation’s attempt to get the IEEE to declare Motif a de jure standard, Unix System Laboratories Inc has, as expected, (CI No 1,650), submitted Open Look for a direct ballot too. And since the Open Software Foundation volunteered its user environment special interest group to count the vote, in tit-for-tat fashion, Unix Labs is offering Unix International’s User Interface Group. Although it wants to derail any juggernaut by the Open Software Foundation, Unix Labs says its response is more playful than serious. It would prefer the IEEE to back the common Application Programming Interface approach it first suggested.
