Univel Inc, the Unix System Laboratories Inc-Novell Inc joint venture, is planning to start unwrapping its distribution channels this week when it announces that it has signed an initial 16 distributors in the US and another seven in the rest of the world. They are all Novell NetWare distributors. The American companies lined up to resell Univel’s shrinkwrapped UnixWare include BDS Inc, Costa Distributing Inc, FoxTech Inc, Gates/FA Distributing Inc, GBC Technologies Inc, InaCom Inc, Ingram Micro Inc, JWP Inc’s JWP Information Services, Merisel Inc, MicroAge Computer Centers Inc, Microware Distributors Inc, MultiMicro Inc, PC Distributing Inc, Tech Data Inc, Vitek Systems Distribution Inc and Vitronix Inc. International distributors, which Univel believes will eventually outnumber US sites, include InterQuad SA, Softservice SA and TopLog SA in France, Akam Data BV in Holland, Diode SA in Spain, Jardine Network Systems Ltd in Hong Kong and ComTech Pty Ltd in Australia. Univel will also unveil a Univel Education programme whose syllabus includes a self-study video Univel Reseller’s Kit; a two-day hands-on desktop course UnixWare Personal Edition Installation and Configuration; a two-day hands-on server course UnixWare Application Server Installation and Configuration; and the five-day Univel Instructor Certification Session. The Personal Edition and Server courses are offered through Novell itself.
