Unisys Corp says that its family of CTOS workstations are the first non-personal computer systems to support and package Microsoft’s Windows 3.0. Support is provided by CTOS PC Emulator Release 4.1, which runs multiple virtual 8086-based MS-DOS applications simultaneously on 80386-based CTOS workstations, and multiple MS-DOS sessions can also run concurrently with multiple CTOS applications. The emulator supports large frame Expanded Memory Specification 4.0, and the CTOS support of Windows 3.0 is said to be a stepping stone to further support for the MS-DOS Protected Mode Interface specification which will break the 640Kb barrier and use extended memory and multi-tasking capabilities of 16-bit and 32-bit systems. Also, Unisys says it has increased the throughput of the Clustershare networking environment with enhanced software and two ClusterCard add-in boards. ClusterShare enables MS-DOS and MicroChannel personal computers to function as clients on a CTOS network and share network resources, and future releases of ClusterShare will support Novell bridging and LAN Manager. The first ClusterCard AT-compatible add-in board provides transmission speeds up to 3.7Mbps, and a Micro Channel-compatible board will be available in the first half.
