The project includes deploying Network Document Processor (NDP) applications with a built-in digital signature function. Unisys says that this represents the first application of its kind in China, laying the foundation for secured image exchange and check truncation capabilities.
The center intends the products to replace its legacy check clearing system, and plans to integrate the new technology with a range of existing applications.
Under the terms of the agreement, the center will deploy multiple Unisys DP1150 and tabletop source NDP document processing systems, along with application software. The new configurations will support its regional check processing operation in Tianjin, as well as check transfer processing for the Beijing and Langfang operations of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC).
Unisys believes that this project with PBOC will be an excellent showcase for how the local banking sector can leverage best-in-class technologies to raise the bar for operational efficiencies, said David Wu, partner and general manager of global financial services for Unisys in China.
The Tianjin Payment Document Clearing and Settlement Center of the PBOC undertakes the bills settlement and clearing responsibilities of the bank in Tianjin and its nearby districts. Built on its automated clearing and settlement system, the center has further developed complementary modules for bill handling, document and bill information exchange.
