Unisys Corp had originally been talking about implementing Intel Corp’s Hypercube technology for Opus and is still using a loosely coupled approach but with a distributed rather than centralised approach, with up to 5,000 feet possible between individual nodes. It decided in the end on a more centralised approach. It still has that technology, but may never release it. But it is looking in the future to add more processors per node to Opus, maybe using Unix multiprocessing extensions to control them, which would enable it to expand the system’s power in a further dimension without adding to the overall number of nodes.
