Land Registry has selected an open source data management tool, Talend Integration Suite, which extends the open source data integration offering, Talend Open Studio.

Land Registry is the government department responsible for keeping and maintaining the Land Register for England and Wales.

The department said the move is part of a broader strategy to improve data integration for its business intelligence (BI) warehouse and to support the department’s new business intelligence project.

Land Registry delivery manager Steven Philips said maintaining concise and accurate data for BI is crucial to Land Registry’s operational performance.

Philips added: "With Talend Integration Suite, Land Registry will benefit from being able to use ETL processes – extract, transform and load – to extract data from a number of different repositories and in multiple formats to provide consistent data for business intelligence."

Talend Integration Suite is used for ETL, data synchronisation and data migration. The service is scalable and provides capabilities that improve the productivity of data integration job design, said the company.

Talend vice-president of global sales François Méro said Land Registry has to handle vast amounts of complex data on the ownership of property and land across England and Wales.

"Ensuring that its business intelligence data is up to date and accurate is paramount and using an open source data management tool like Talend Integration Suite is an efficient and cost effective way to achieve this," Méro said. "Being open source, Talend Integration Suite can integrate with all existing legacy systems and is ideal for supporting new and evolving projects such as Land Registry’s BI project."
