The company’s Spam Prevention Service, offered using technology provided by Postini Inc, is being renamed Spam Prevention Solution with SPS 2.0, which also sees a new pricing model being applied.
In version 1.0 of SPS, it was offered as a separate server that worked with IMSS. In version 1.1, it worked on the same box, but was not fully integrated into the policy management system, which also governs ant-virus and content filtering. In version 2.0 that integration is finished.
Trend say SPS accounted for 7% of sales within weeks of launch as evidence that spam filters were needed urgently, but refutes charges leveled by rivals that earlier versions of SPS represented an integration challenge.
Trend’ said that there are plans to develop IMSS both vertically, with new models, and horizontally, with new modules such as email encryption.
IMSS 5.5 is priced starting at $660 for a 25-user license, which includes anti-virus and content filtering. To add SPS 2.0 to the box, the price more than doubles to $1,485 for 25 users. According to Trend, the spam filter market is not yet seeing the same kind of pricing competition as the more mature anti-virus market.
