Toshiba Corp’s America Information Systems Inc unit yesterday plunged into pen computing with launch of the T100X Dynapad, which runs either Go Corp’s PenPoint operating system or Microsoft Corp’s PenWindows. It uses the 80386SL chip, weighs 3.3 lbs, and comes with a 9.5 black and white display, a 40Mb disk with the buyer’s choice of PenPoint or PenWindows pre-loaded. It costs $3,500 and will be available in January. The company also added the T4400C notebook with 9.5 active matrix colour display – one inch bigger than its existing displays, and full 80486 microprocessor with 220Mb disk at $4,000. The company cut prices on its existing notebooks by 14% to 25% so the T3300SL is now $2,300, the T4400SX is $2,800, the T6400SX to $4,000 and the T6400DXC to $7,500. A new 80486-based T4500 series comes with active-matrix colour and direct contact BallPoint mouse. It is to be available in January at from $2,800 to $4,400. The Microsoft Ballpoint Mouse with QuickPort connection consists of five spring-loaded gold-plated pin-contacts between the Ballpoint Mouse and the Quickport socket built into the computer, which acts as both mechanical and electrical connection, Toshiba says.
