Real-time middleware vendor Tibco Software Inc said Thursday that it has struck a deal to acquire Xerox Corp subsidiary InConcert Inc for $34m in cash. InConcert, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, develops enterprise application integration software for telecommunications companies. The company’s offerings are designed to integrate all of a telecommunications company’s information systems, including customer care and billing and operational support systems.

For Tibco, the acquisition extends its product line with complementary technology and gives it access to InConcert customers such as AT&T, Sprint, Qwest, Level 3 and NextLink. Tibco reckons that those companies will be happy with the more complete offering it can provide through the integration of its infrastructure software suite with InConcert’s process automation software. Some companies, like Swedish carrier Telia AB, already use both companies’ software, Tibco points out.

The deal will be accounted for as a purchase and Tibco says it is currently reviewing the assets to be acquired to determine how much in-process technology will be written off in the fourth quarter, as well as the amount of goodwill which will be amortized over a longer period of time. á
