Thomson, which provides information management services, said that Solucient will be absorbed into its Medstat scientific and healthcare business unit.

Solucient is owned by VNU Group BV, private equity fund Veronis Suhler Stevenson and VHA Inc, an alliance of more than 2,400 not-for-profit healthcare organizations.

VNU has agreed to sell its 34% stake in Solucient that it has held since 1999. The company said that Solucient is no longer a strategic fit for its marketing group.

Solucient’s decision support software is used by over 2,000 healthcare organizations to analyze operational data to spot trends and benchmark their performance against industry standards.

Thomson’s Medstat division already offers a comprehensive set of offers a rich set of tools for healthcare payers, including employers, health plans and government agencies. The acquisition will strengthen Thomson’s foothold in the North American healthcare with complementary decision support competencies that will help companies address quality and cost of healthcare provision across a range of operations.
