The Learning Company Inc, the educational and entertainment software outfit that has been on a buying spree lately, has now purchased the interactive software division of The Princeton Review Publishing LLC. The deal for the software business at Princeton Review – which publishes study guides for college entrance and professional examinations – saw TLC hand over $5.1m. As part of the agreement, TLC also acquired a 20-year exclusive license for the use of The Princeton Review brand and test preparation content in disk-based educational and reference software products. TLC plans to publish a line of teen educational software under The Princeton Review brand that will include math, multi-subjects and test-prep software. The company also announced Wednesday that it has completed the previously- announced acquisition of Sofsource Inc from North Coast Entertainment Inc. TLC bought Sofsource, also a publisher of educational software for students, for a price of about $45m. TLC’s acquisitions this year also include Mindscape Inc for $150m (CI No 3,362) and Broderbund Software Inc for $420m (CI No 3,437).
