In the quarter to March 31, net income rose 17.9% to 423.3m euros ($514.3m) on revenue 20.2% higher at $2.56bn euros ($3.1bn). While revenue in Spain rose 17.4%, the company’s Latin American operations showed 29.6% growth and now account for 26% of total revenue.

The Madrid, Spain-based subsidiary of Spanish incumbent Telefonica said it has 54.4 million managed customers at the end of the quarter, 30% higher than a year earlier. When its $5.85bn (4.72bn euros) acquisition of the Latin American wireless assets of US carrier BellSouth Corp is complete, this will take its customer base to 66 million.
