To this end, a new company, Telecom Italia Lab was established, the new company will be formed by transferring the Venture Capital and Innovation Business Unit from its current position to CSELT SpA. Andrea Granelli, has been appointed CEO of Telecom Italia Lab.

The purpose of the new company is to promote innovative activities within the Telecom Italia Group. The process also entails the transformation of CSELT, the Telecom Italia research center with roughly 1,000 researchers and 13,000 square meters of specialist laboratories, into a profit-making Centre, leader in the technological innovation sector.

The new business unit will focus on three main areas of activity:

Research and professional services through CSELT and other research and innovation centers such as the San Salvador Future Centre (Venice), the Consumer Lab (Rome), and the Technology Observatory in San Francisco (USA).

Venture capital and investment in technology start-ups with potentially high profitability.

Institutional and e-learning projects, (considered to be strategic activities) including the Interaction Design Institute of Ivrea as well as other regional innovation centers to be established in the near future.
