Telecom Finland, a unit of Suomen PT, which withdrew from the Telenordia, formerly TBT Communication AB, Swedish telecommunication joint venture with British Telecommunications Plc, Tele Danmark AS and Telenor AS of Norway (CI No 2,658), has announced it is still interested in entering the deregulated Swedish market. The company, which pulled out of Telenordia because it claimed its share of the business would have been too small, said it will take on Swedish operator Telia AB and Telenordia either on its own or with another partner. Christer Nykopp, head of international business strategy at Telecom Finland, would not comment on rumours of co-operation with Stockholm-based Tele2 AB or Cable & Wireless Plc, telling Swedish paper Hufvudstadsbladet that the company would not reveal detailed plans until September or October. But he said the company intends to compete in the market for data and telecommunications services for companies, organisations and authorities, and will offer value-added services to companies active in both Sweden and Finland. In addition, it hopes to act as a bridgehead for the growing telecommunications and data traffic to and from Russia.
