The company plans to invest $10 million over the next 12 months for a dedicated Innovation Lab for embedded systems research in automotive, consumer electronics, telecom, and office automation for the Japanese market. In addition, TCS also plans to set up its second Japan-focused Offshore Delivery Center (J-ODC) at Pune focused on embedded systems.
The new lab will be based in Pune, India in addition to an embedded systems centre in Yokohama, Japan. Further, the company plans to hire 100 engineers and researchers across India and Japan. The new lab is expected to leverage the capabilities of 19 other labs as well as the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Co-Innovation Network.
Currently, there are more than 1,800 TCS associates servicing Japanese corporations worldwide, including more than 300 associates in Japan. Further, TCS has also identified several engineering colleges and language solutions business partners to teach Japanese language to students selected by TCS during their engineering course.
Earlier this month, TCS’ competitor Wipro announced its expansion in the Japanese intellectual property market in the areas of semiconductors, system on chip (SoC) and radio frequency integrated circuit (RFID).
