Tandem Computers Inc, which has been tightlipped on the subject up to now (see page three) yesterday took the NT plunge and announced formation of a new Windows NT Server Business Unit. The Cupertino firm says it wants to build on its 20 years of high-reliability business-critical computing experience in the fast-growing Windows NT market. The company has licensed the source code from Microsoft Corp, and presumably will be running it on its MIPS R-series RISC-based machines, though it does not actually say so. It does say it will be making key enhancements to the Windows NT Server in the areas of high availability, data integrity and scalability.
