San Jose, California-based SysKonnect Inc is shipping FDDI adapters for the PCI bus. The SK-Net FDDI-PCI adapter family completes the company’s FDDI offerings for AT, EISA, Micro Channel and PCI-bus systems, for both copper and fiber environments. The company claims that the products will help it exploit the specialist growth area of providing integration for PCI-based high performance network servers. For server applications, SysKonnect offers the Single Attach Station SK-Net FDDI-FP adapter for fiber connections and the Dual Attach Station SK-Net FDDI-LP adapter for direct integration of servers into the FDDI double ring. The small fiber-SC connectors on the LP adapter offer Dual Attach Station functionality on a single board, resulting in only one PCI slot being required for network integration. The SK-Net FDDI-UP Single Attach Station adapter complies with the ANSI standard TP-PMD and promises low cost integration of FDDI workstations and servers via unshielded twisted pair Category 5 cabling. The company boasts that the SK-Net FDDI-PCI bus adapter’s speed of 100Mbps with ‘Token Passing’ network access delivers dramatic speed advantages to users. Additional safety procedures provide resistance against electromagnetic radiation and protection against line intrusions. Bernd Koch, SysKonnect’s managing director, claimed The PCI bus system gives users very high performance networks that require minimized processor utilization in their server applications. The products are available now and pricing is $1,500 for the SK-Net FP, $2,100 for the SK-Net LP, and $945 for the UP version.
